Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers opposes participation of Russian women Maria Helmanas part of the jury of the competition World Press Photo 2024.

Helman is among five members of a European team of judges who will evaluate, including Ukrainian photographers. The jury also includes: Anastasia Taylor-Lind, Chair of this year's Jury, UK/Sweden; Andreas Trump, Germany, Stern Senior Photo Editor; Gilles Steinman, Switzerland, Director; Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Mariama Atta, UK, Curator.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers appeals to the leadership of the competition with a strong demand to change the composition of the jury and to exclude from it the representative of the Russian Federation. The UAPF considers that Helman's participation is not logical, and one that may affect objectivity in decision-making when evaluating the work of the participants. In addition, Russia's unprovoked, invasive, brutal and unjust war against Ukraine has been going on since 2014 and we believe that the participation of the representative of the Russian Federation Maria Helman raises a lot of ethical questions.

The annual World Press Photo competition is open to all professional photographers working in the field of photojournalism and documentary. Acceptance of applicationsThe World Press Photo Contest 2024 is closed. Regional winners will be announced on April 3.
