On October 30, at about 22:44, the Russian army struck the residential district of Saltovka. The enemy guided aerial bomb caused large-scale destruction in the high-rise building, destroying the floors from the fourth to the first floor.
On the morning of October 31, a 12-year-old boy was reported dead. He was unblocked from the rubble with severe head injuries and fractures. Medics performed resuscitation for half an hour. They failed to save the child. In addition, 34 residents sustained various degrees of injuries, two of whom are in serious condition, said Mayor Igor Terekhov.
The head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleg Syegubov, reported around 8 a.m. that another 15-year-old boy was trapped under the rubble. As of the morning, the threat of the building collapse had not yet been eliminated, and the search and rescue operation continues in difficult conditions.
The impact caused a massive fire to break out. Residents of the upper floors were blocked by the fire. The fire covered an area of 80 square meters and was extinguished at 1:30 a.m.
The local police opened an operational headquarters to help the victims and collect information about missing relatives, as well as to provide advice on damaged property. As a result of the Russian airstrike, parts of bodies were found at the site of the tragedy, which probably belonged to the victims who did not show signs of life, the Kharkiv regional prosecutor 's office said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on civilians and once again emphasized the importance of isolating the aggressor country in the international arena.
As a reminder, on October 28, Russia attacked the central part of Kharkiv, causing damage to the historic Derzhprom building, an outstanding example of constructivism and a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
