Three people died because of a closed shelter in the Desnyansky district: a 9-year-old girl, her 34-year-old mother and a 33-year-old woman. People went to the shelter, but could not get inside.
An elderly man in a gray jacket, who in the photo sits alone near a silver-covered body blanket, lost his daughter-in-law and granddaughter one morning. The chair was first brought to his wife, who became unwell during the recognition. The woman was taken away by an ambulance, and the man did not move away from the dead child until the forensic experts took her to the funeral home.
Yaroslav's wife died from falling debris. The man himself at this point went to look for a guard who was supposed to open the shelter. “There was alarm, people ran to shelter. The shelter was simply not opened and that's all. People knocked, and at that moment it flew,” Yaroslav told journalists.
The Kiev police launched an investigation into official negligence, which led to serious consequences. On the eve of the missile attack in Kyiv city military administration promised to check all storage facilities — residents of the capital complained about closed shelters in almost all areas.
