Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is an international non-profit organization based in Paris whose mandate is to protect and promote freedom of information around the world. RSF's expertise is recognized in all areas of journalism, and the organization itself is known for its ability to mobilize an international network of trainers and consultants. Over the past 35 years, RSF has provided numerous capacity-building services around the world, including customized training programs for different regions and digital security trainings.

We share a selection of opportunities provided by RSF for Ukrainian journalists and photographers in the UAPP community.

“Journalists in Ukraine have been covering the consequences of the Russian invasion from the frontline for two years. From the early days, the RSF focused on ensuring they could continue working, providing them with means of protection, financial grants, and organizing vacations outside the front line. In a context of continuous war, the international community must continue to provide long-term support to these media to ensure the right to information.”
— Antoine Bernard, Director of Advocacy and Assistance at RSF

Journalists' Safety Resource

The Reporters Without Borders resource for journalist safety aims to empower independent journalists to take better care of security online and offline, as well as improve the protection of their sources and improve their knowledge of journalistic ethics standards.

Safety tips are available at Website in Ukrainian. New articles will be translated in the coming weeks.

Training

RSF launches new safety training cycle for journalists. After a two-day training cycle, the organization plans to focus on a shortened one-day format with a focus on first aid delivery in Kiev, Dnipro, as well as Odessa or Kharkiv. As soon as the reception of applications is open, we will announce it on our social networks.

Psychological support

For RSF, the mental health of journalists is a key priority.

Therefore, the platform was launched caring.eutelmed.com that allows journalists to access safe and confidential individual support sessions with a professional psychologist, as well as mental health resources.

To receive five free psychological consultations when you go to the site, enter the code “RSF22".

In the event that you need to cover the services of a personal psychologist you can apply for compensation at lvivpfc@rsf.org.

Residency Program

Since August 2023, thanks to the cooperation between RSF and Lviv Media Forum, 95 media workers together with their families have been given a week-long holiday in the Carpathians, in the west of the country, to regain strength and continue their further journalistic activities.

Currently, the development of a program and agreements with Lviv Media Forum are underway to offer media professionals and their relatives a 7-day holiday in the Carpathians with reimbursement of travel, accommodation and all planned activities during this time. We will share this opportunity as soon as it is opened.
