The winners of the Shevchenko Prize 2024 have been announced: UAPF founder Mstyslav Chernov is among the winners

The highest creative award in Ukraine for significant contribution to the development of culture and art was awarded to the Ukrainian director, documentary filmmaker, founder of the UAFF Mstislav Chernov. Relevant Decree of the President of Ukraine with the full list of laureates of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine for 2024 is published on the website of the head of state.

In the nomination “Journalism, Journalism”Mstislav Chernov was honored together with photographer Yevgeny Maloletka and producer Vasilisa Stepanenko for a series of journalistic materials from Mariupol surrounded by Russian troops in the spring of 2022. We are talking about reports, photos and videos, investigations and the film “20 Days in Mariupol”. The team was the only representative of the international media, thanks to which the world learned the truth about the destruction of the Ukrainian city by the Russians. After that Chernov, Maloletka and Stepanenko became the winners of the Pulitzer Prize, the film “20 Days in Mariupol” Received the highest British film award BAFTA, and also nominated for Oscarscomo el mejor documentaría.

In addition to the nomination “Journalism, Journalism” Artists received the highest Ukrainian distinction in the field of culture in four other nominations:

Literature — Dmitry Lazutkin for the book of poems “Zavedka” and Yarina Chornohuz for the book of poetry “[dasein: defense of presence]”.

Musical art — Jamala for the album “Qirim” and composer Carmella Tepkolenko.

Theatrical art ----Ivan Uryvsky, Tatiana Ovsiychuk, Susanna Karpenko for the play “The Witch of Konotop”.

Visual Arts —Andriy Yermolenko for the series of works Ukrainian resistance/“Ukrainian resistance”.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke speechat the award ceremony. “For the human community to become a nation and a state, the best characters in the country must have hearts that should live only for themselves. Such hearts speak to those who are near. I thank everyone and everyone who lives not only for themselves, who cares about the people and the whole of our country.” ---- said during the celebration of the winners of the Shevchenko Prize, the president.

Recall that the award is presented annually from 1961 to the birthday of Taras Shevchenko on March 9. It is the highest creative award in Ukraine for significant contribution to the development of culture and art. No more than seven National Prizes can be awarded each year, and a person can be awarded once in a lifetime. The award is awarded by the President of Ukraine on the basis of the decision of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize Committee of Ukraine. This year, the Presidential Decree determined that the amount of the Shevchenko Prize will be 429 thousand hryvnias.
