On October 10, 2022, the Russian military began massively shelling the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. In November, there was a blackout when all power units in Ukrainian-controlled nuclear power plants were cut off. Thus began the most difficult winter in the history of independent Ukraine.

On November 11, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Kherson, the only regional center of Ukraine, captured by the Russian military since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. On the central square of the city, on the side of the streets and at the entrance to Kherson, local residents greeted the Ukrainian military. On that day there were many hugs, shouts of “Glory to Ukraine!” and tears of happiness.

Dangerous “flowers”. The work of artillerymen on the eve of the liberation of Kherson in the photographs of Viacheslav Ratynskyi
Armed forces of Ukraine recaptured the city of Kherson, districts of the Kherson region and parts of the Nikolaev area in November 2022. The events were the result of the southern counteroffensive of Ukraine, which took place thanks to the titanic work of the Ukrainian military.

Massive missile attack on critical infrastructure. The aftermath of the shelling of Kyiv in the photos of Yevhen Zavhorodnyi and Serhiy Korovainyi
On October 10, 2022, the Russian military carried out the first massive missile strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and, at the same time, the most massive missile strike since the beginning of a full-scale missile strike on the entire territory of Ukraine. The missiles were launched in several waves from the Black and Caspian Seas, as well as from aircraft.

Wreckage of life. The consequences of the shelling of a humanitarian convoy in Zaporizhzhia in the photos of Serhiy Korovainyi
On the morning of September 30, 2022, the Russian military launched missile strikes on Zaporizhia. They fired on a humanitarian convoy on the outskirts of the city. As a result of the rocket attack, 32 people were killed and more than 80 were injured. Among the dead are two children. The shelling took place on the day when Russia announced the annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine, in particular parts of the Zaporizhzhya region.

Mutilated Izyum. Photo report by Danylo Pavlov from the liberated city
On September 10, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated the city of Izyum in Kharkiv region from Russian occupiers. The Russian army left behind destroyed houses, shattered schools and kindergartens, as well as the remains of numerous cassette shells, stretchers and explosives. During the five months of occupation, a new cemetery grew in the city and at least 1,000 local residents were killed.

Exhibition "Spalah. Ukrainian photography today"
On September 29, at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv, the opening of the photo exhibition "Spalah. Ukrainian Photography Today" took place. The project was implemented by the National Center "Ukrainian House" and the NGO "Platform for Cultural Initiatives" in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers and with the support of the Press, Education, and Culture Department of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

The exhibition "The Siege of Mariupol - The last journalists in the occupied city"
As part of this year's Czech Photo Festival, on October 12, an exhibition titled "The Siege of Mariupol - The Last Journalists in the Occupied City" was opened at the Czech Photo Center Gallery in Prague. The exhibition features world-renowned works by Mstislav Chernov and Yevhen Maloletka. The project was realized by the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) in cooperation with Czech Photo and the Association of Professional Photographers of the Czech Republic (APF).

«Bojují i za nás»
A large-scale exhibition of the members of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers entitled "They are fighting for us too" was organized in the Czech Republic, Belgium and the United States. The exhibition features more than 200 photographs documenting the vivid evidence of Russia's aggression and genocide, the lives of ordinary people in the war, and the brave struggle of our people not only for their own freedom but also for the freedom of the entire world.

Photo book "Brave to bring the light"
The photo book Brave to Bring the Light, about the most difficult winter in the history of independent Ukraine so far, includes photographs by more than 30 Ukrainian authors who documented the energy crisis caused by the Russian military's attack on Ukrainian infrastructure facilities during the fall of 2022, winter and spring of 2023.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPF) in cooperation with the Bereznitsky Art Foundation organized a charity exhibition "Ukrainian Guernica", which was opened at the Factory Gallery, Tbilisi. The project was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
