Photo 2025: Single Image Open Call

Rotterdam Photo 2025: Single Image Open Call is a competition open to professional and amateur photographers from all over the world who are 16 years of age or older at the time of application.
The theme of the competition is: “Shared/Connected”. The organizers invite participants to explore and visually reflect the idea of community and connection in modern society.
What can be submitted: Both individual photographs and series (up to 5 images) are accepted.
Prize: The selected photographers will have the opportunity to present their work in an exhibition during the Rotterdam Photo 2025 festival, which will take place in May 2025 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This is an excellent platform to showcase their talents to an international audience of over 10,000 visitors, including collectors, gallerists and members of the international art press.
Participation fee:
- Single photo: 19 euros per application.
- Series (up to 5 photos): 75 euros per application.

Contest “Vicki Loves Folklore”: preserving cultural heritage in photos

From February 1 to March 31, 2025, the international photo contest “Wiki Loves Folklore” is taking place to document and promote intangible cultural heritage.
If you have photos or videos of folk festivals, dances, traditional costumes, or folk art masters, this contest is a great opportunity to share them with the world and contribute to the preservation of Ukrainian culture!
What can be uploaded?
Photos of folk traditions - rituals, festivals, celebrations, traditional crafts
Images of traditional clothes, dances, musical instruments
Video and audio recordings - performances of folk songs, interviews with masters, sounds of folklore
How to participate?

- Register or log in to your Wikipedia account
- Select your photos or videos and upload them to Wikimedia Commons
- Fill in the description with the name of the event, place, date and other details
Special nomination “Ukrainian cuisine”
This year, the contest has a new nomination, Ukrainian Cuisine, dedicated to photographs of traditional Ukrainian dishes. The authors of the three best photos will receive separate awards. The best audio and video materials about folk art will also be recognized separately!
What should be considered? Photos and videos must be informative and have a clear description (what is depicted, where and when it was taken) Copyright: music and performances are also protected by law, so you must obtain permission from the performers before publishing recordings of folk songs or performances.

- The three best photos of the Ukrainian stage of the contest will receive valuable prizes and souvenirs.
- The authors whose photos illustrate the most Wikipedia articles will receive certificates from online stores.

World Report Award | Documenting Humanity 2025

Who can participate? The contest is open to professional and amateur photographers from all over the world.
Contest theme: The World Report Award | Documenting Humanity focuses on works that highlight people and their social or cultural stories; public or private, insignificant or important; great human tragedies or small everyday stories; intimate and personal relationships that connect people. Projects aimed at preserving wildlife and solving environmental problems are also welcome.
What can be submitted? Complete projects consisting of several images or individual photos.
What are the prizes?
- Cash prizes totaling 15,000 euros.
- Exhibition of the winners' works during the Ethical Photography Festival in Lodi, Italy.
- Opportunity for the winners to visit Italy in October to present their projects.
- International exposure and visibility among industry professionals.
- Publication in the Festival's annual catalog for 2025.
- Long-term support and promotion of the winners' projects through the Festival's communication channels.

The Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award

The Anne Niedringhaus Award for Courage in Photojournalism honors the life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning Associated Press photographer Anne Niedringhaus (1965-2014). Established by the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) with support from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the award recognizes the courageous work of women photojournalists who inspire action and a deeper understanding of the world through their images.
Who can apply? The award is open to women, non-binary and gender non-conforming full-time photojournalists, regardless of nationality. Applications are accepted from both freelancers and those who work with media organizations. Journalism should be the candidate's main profession.
What can be submitted? Applicants must submit 12 photographs that best reflect their style and coverage of work in the context of a challenging reporting environment. Six of these photos must have been taken within the last two years (2023-2025), and the remaining six can be from any period of their career. Each photo must be accompanied by a caption in English with the date, place and description of the situation.
What are the prizes? The winner will receive a cash prize of $20,000 and the opportunity to present their work at the award ceremony.
How to apply? Applications and nominations are accepted in English. Each application should include information about the candidate, a portfolio of 12 photos, and a 500-word motivation letter answering four questions:
- What stories does the candidate tell through his/her photos?
- What are the conditions in which the candidate works?
- How do the submitted photos reflect the candidate's scope of work?
- How does the candidate's career and work reflect Anja Niedringhaus' values?
