Russian troops continue to attack Ukraine's civilian infrastructure using kamikaze drones, rockets, and artillery. In the last week of January 2025, Ukrainian cities suffered devastating strikes and civilian casualties. Today, the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers publishes documentary photographs taken over the past week in Sumy, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia, which show yet another war crime committed by Russians against the civilian population.

On the night of February 1, 2025, Russian troops massively attacked Zaporizhzhia with kamikaze drones. According to the regional military administration, more than 10 strikes were recorded, causing damage to 14 multi-storey buildings and about 10 private houses, as well as significant damage to an educational institution. One person was injured.

The same night, the Russian military launched a missile attack on Poltava, hitting a five-story residential building. Emergency and rescue operations at the site of the tragedy lasted for a day and a half. As of February 2, the State Emergency Service reported 14 deaths, including, according to updated data, three children - 7, 9 and 12 years old; 20 people were injured, four of them children. Twenty-two people were rescued.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that on the night of February 1 alone, Russians used 165 missiles and drones of various types. In addition to Poltava, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Donetsk regions were also attacked.

“Odesa is recovering from yesterday's strikes on the city center. Museums, the Philharmonic, many historic buildings and a famous Odesa hotel were damaged. Not only Ukrainians, but even Norwegian diplomats working in Ukraine were under attack in Odesa.

We are working to attract more resources from our partners to strengthen Ukraine's air shield. Protection from shelling is an absolute priority. Much more needs to be done, but every partner in the world who helps us is a life saver,” the President emphasized.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers closely monitors the work of the community members who cover the events of the Russian-Ukrainian war both on the front line and in the rear cities of the country on a daily basis. UAPP encourages photographers to send photos for publication - those that have already become part of history and will eventually turn into a valuable heritage and documentary evidence for future generations.
