“The arrival of the Russians is not a punishment, but a blessing”. How Russia manipulates narratives about peace and the surrender of the occupied regions

Russia occupied Ukrainian territory back in 2014. In the third year of a full-scale war, a significant part of Ukrainian lands still remains in the hands of the Russians. Five regions of Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula are partially occupied, including major port cities and critical infrastructure.

“The Russians never come empty-handed. Only in them are not swords, but the same orals with which the long abandoned and withered land, which has not been fertilized for decades, will be plowed.
So the arrival of the Russians is not punishment, but charity.”

In the time of a full-scale invasion after the liberation of territories from the invading army, the word “occupation” for Ukrainians is no longer just a word from Wikipedia.

2024 was marked by significant promotion and capture of settlements of the Russian army in Donetsk region.
Amid increasing talk of possible negotiations, peace plans, and end of war scenarios, the advance of the Russians becomes a topic for manipulating enemy propaganda. By doing this, they are trying to fuel conflicts inside Ukraine.

“The enemy implements a comprehensive strategy of depleting Ukraine — a combination of military (actions at the front and strikes in the rear) and non-war tools (information campaigns) to undermine the will to further resistance,” quotes analyst Mykola Beleskov “Detector Media”.

In Donetsk region, the occupiers are trying to seize more territories, make a breakthrough in the south and reach the border with the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Scaring Ukrainians with an offensive and intensifying shelling is a tactic of the Russians, which should force them to surrender.

On November 21, 2024, the Russian army deployed a new type of weapons in Ukraine. In the words of its president, Russia called this shelling a “test in combat conditions”. How reported Center for Strategic Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukraine became the first country in the world against which an intercontinental ballistic missile was used. Air Force of Ukraine reported that the missile “Oreshnik” flew to the Dnieper along with other missiles.

“Vladimir Putin said that Russia hit the Ukrainian Yuzhmash plant in Dnipro with a ballistic missile in nuclear-free hypersonic equipment, writes the TARS agency.”

British Agency Reuters quoting Putin wrote that the strike was a “warning to the West against supporting Ukraine's military efforts.”

“One of the sources said the missile carried dummy warheads and described the damage as “fairly minor,” writes Reuters.

How writes BBC News, the rocket was equipped with six warheads, each carrying six sub-munitions. It caused explosions that lasted three hours. This was confirmed by the video of the attack.

The publication notes that the area of damage to this missile is almost the whole of Europe, moreover, it is capable of overcoming any existing modern air defense systems.
The Russian government said the missile tests would continue, “including in combat conditions.”

“Of course, the Russian aggressor has not become less dangerous, but he lost another battle on the information field. The Russians did not take into account the resistance of Ukrainians, supported by a sense of humor and tempered, in particular, by their own missiles and the brandishing of a nuclear stick, to which Moscow returns again and again with manic persistence.” wrote Institute of Mass Information.

We must remember that the Russian army daily bombards the territory of Ukraine with missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
If we look back almost two years ago, 46 people were killed and 79 injured in the same Dnipro on January 14 as a result of a Russian missile strike with X-22 missiles on a high-rise building.

“A Russian missile launched at an energy infrastructure facility was hit by Ukrainian air defense forces. Since the installation of air defense violated the norms of international law, which you all care so much about, placed in a residential neighborhood, the rocket hit a residential building,” he said during the meeting (UN — ed.) Nebenzia”.

“This was the case in Kremenchug and Dnipro, Ukrainian missiles, which did not reach the target, flew into Poland and Moldova,” Nebenzia stressed.

“How writes project “NotaEnota”, according to the spokesman of the Air Force of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat, the launch of the missile over the Dnieper took place from a Tu-22M3 long-range bomber from the Kursk region and the Sea of Azov. In total, there were 5 launches of such missiles. The X-22 is called the “aircraft carrier killer”. The 950-kilogram warhead missile can be equipped with a nuclear warhead. It is designed to destroy aircraft carrier groups at sea. Such missiles are not used in cities, but it was Russia that launched them over the Dnieper.” notifies “Detector Media”. — “The command of the Ukrainian Air Force once again reacted to the situation and reported that the radars revealed the approximate launch location, altitude, flight speed. “There is no doubt that it was the X-22 missile. The Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have weapons capable of shooting down this type of missile.” stated in the department.”

Russia is a dictatorial state that cannot exist without war and the seizure of foreign territories.
For the third year, the occupiers are holding hostage Europe's largest nuclear power plant NPP and the city of Energodar.

In November alone, due to shelling by the Russian army, the NPP lost power three times.

The Russian army turned the station into a military base and a tool of nuclear blackmail. Instead, the Russian authorities and the Kremlin's proxies assigned to run the NPP under occupation accuse the Ukrainian authorities and the Armed Forces of nuclear terrorism.

“Terrorists in Kyiv under the leadership of the collective West destroyed their country, ruined the people of Ukraine, undermined world energy and food security, now they have taken up the nuclear terror of the continent,” Zakharova wrote in the telegram.

Propagandists call IAEA inspectors who are on the territory of the NPP as probable spies, and the Russian military on the territory of the station “personnel of the Rosgguard providing security at the station.”

From the captured Energodar across the river under constant Russian shelling is the city of Nikopol and the district.

“Today, Russian troops use the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant as a shield and a tool of provocation: the enemy daily terrorizes the city of Nikopol from the territory of the nuclear power plant, taking advantage of the fact that the Armed Forces cannot respond, because a corresponding strike could lead to a second Chernobyl,” Liberov wrote on his Instagram.

Russian propagandists, speaking of “nuclear terrorism of the Ukrainian authorities”, mention another facility in the Zaporizhzhya region, namely Dniproges, which they shelled during a massive missile attack on Ukraine on March 22, 2024. Propagandists spread the message that allegedly the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the leadership of the Ukrainian authorities have long replaced hydroelectric power plants. They plan to blow it up when the Russians enter the city.

These fake claims take us back to the tragic events of June 2023, when the occupiers blew up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, causing a man-made disaster.

“On the night of June 6, the Kiev regime committed an incomprehensible crime — to blow up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant,” the diplomat stressed (Nebenzya — ed.)“.

OSINT Agency Team “Molfar” by spending study found that the Russian army, probably the first motorized rifle battalion of 205 OMSBR 49 of the All-Military Army of the Southern Military District of the Stavropol Territory, was involved in the subversion of the Kakhovskaya Dam. They also refuted the propaganda version that the dam was destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine by striking the “Vilkha” from the RSVP, because the destroyed part of the dam is 200 m, which in theory cannot be made into a combat unit of 250 kg.

“The flooding of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant occurred because the Russians From the first days of the full-scale invasion, they occupied it and it was they who had uninterrupted access to it. Then they replaced it, after which they deliberately increased the water pressure, which led to the destruction of the dam and its supports. And as a result, the hydroelectric dam was destroyed. The Russian leadership knew about the planning of the terrorist attack and the approaching catastrophe and prepared the legislative framework for itself. Why it is beneficial for the Russians to blow up the dam — to slow down the offensive of the Armed Forces — were told by the occupying military correspondents themselves. GUR in October pointed out that mining was carried out back in April 2022, and in October they also replaced the gates and supports of the hydroelectric power plant, and trucks with explosives were located on the dam itself,” - concludes “Molfar”.

Moreover, the Russian army opened fire on the evacuation sites.
“To be honest, we didn't expect it. I was struck by the maximum inhumanity of our enemy. Not only did the Russians flood the city and carry out one of the largest ecocides in decades, but they continue to shell civilians. Then it flew to the residential quarter. People were screaming. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the situation was very tense,” he said UAPP Konstantin Liberov, who also recorded the consequences of the explosion in Kherson.

“When everyone left, the water was gone — and people will be left alone with this trouble. We saw the real scale of the disaster. Thousands of families were left without homes. People told us: “The Russians didn't finish us, they flooded.” But at such an important moment, they often told me: “We can handle it anyway, if only they did not come back here. It was worse during the occupation.” People wanted to live in Ukraine, to own their land. The value of freedom for these people, for all of us, is vital.” quoted Ivan Antipenko UAPP.

While such facilities as the Kakhovsk hydroelectric power plant and the NPP remain under the occupation of a country that daily violates the norms of international law, a real threat hangs not only over Ukraine, but also over the whole of Europe.

To justify the so-called “special operation” and the desire to capture the eastern and southern regions, propaganda actively promotes the theme of “New Russia”, declaring that Ukraine is an artificial country.

“If you are disturbed by monuments, if you are disturbed by speech, if you are disturbed by history, if you are disturbed by the names of cities and streets, if you are not satisfied with the people who are near you, it means that you are building your state on foreign territory.”

“In April 2014, during the Straight Line, Vladimir Putin spoke about Novorussia for the first time More specifically, its historical roots. Putin's speech was based on two theses: first, Novorossiya is the historical name of the East and South of Ukraine, with an overwhelming majority ethnic Russian population; and second, these territories, according to Putin, were illegally transferred by the Bolsheviks to the Ukrainian SSR in the 1920s,writes “Hromadske Radio”. — Oksana Populakh says that as Putin did not want, the concept of “Novorossiya” does not have any national meaning. This is just a bizarre name for the territory that characterizes Russian expansionist policy. Russian propaganda actively uses the term “Novorossiya” to legitimize their modern occupation of southern Ukraine. It has been actively used since 2014.”

Russian propagandists are calling on residents of Zaporizhia and the region to evacuate, as the Russian army is preparing to capture the entire Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. To increase the psychological pressure on Zaporozhye, modernized CABs flew.

“We will liberate Zaporozhye, that is clear. Zaporizhzhya region is part of the Russian Federation according to the results of the referendum and the decision of the majority of citizens living in this territory.”

“Following Zaporozhye, according to the expert, will come the turn of the Black Sea territories: Kherson, Nikolaev, Odessa. After Kiev loses access to the Black Sea and the Danube ports, its fate will be decided.”

“... the city of Nikolaev, which became a turning point for the Russian southern offensive. If the city fell in the first weeks of a full-scale invasion, the road to central Ukraine, as well as such a desirable route to Odessa, would be open to a brutal Russian invasion. For Ukraine, the city and its inhabitants are a symbol of unshakable resistance and self-sacrifice,” Sasha Maslov wrote on her Instagram.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Odessa is a Russian city, everyone knows about it.
Odessa is a Russian city in general, we know about it, but we invented historical nonsense, and after the collapse of the USSR we put up with it,” he said during the annual press conference.

After the Russian withdrawal from the grain deal, Russian forces increased the number of attacks on southern Ukraine: they tried to destroy port infrastructure by shelling it from occupied Crimea, which over the years of annexation turned into a base for strikes on southern Ukraine.

Russia justifies the attacks on Odessa and Nikolaev by claiming that ships with NATO weapons arrive at the ports. Russia also spreads fakes about “illegal mass transportation of NATO weapons in civilian ships, which are hidden in fuel and grain.”

“In Odessa, Iskander covered a dry cargo with ammunition. The Optima dry cargo under the flag of Palau became the target of Russian scouts after they discovered the unloading of ammunition from it.

Considering Odessa to be a Russian city, Russians do not forget to regularly shell the city.

On the night of July 23, Russian forces carried out a massive attack on the territory of Odessa and the region, launching 19 missiles. The historical center of Odessa, protected by UNESCO, suffered damage. The Russian army damaged 25 architectural monuments at once, including the Transfiguration Cathedral, showing the world that their ostentatious Orthodoxy is not really about religion.

“The probable cause of the destruction of the temple in Odessa was the fall of a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile as a result of illiterate actions of air defense operators. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.”

Screenshot from Instagram of Konstantin and Vlada Liberov

“The Transfiguration Savior, who seems to have been baptized in 2010 by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, was greatly affected. The same one that now blesses an encroaching invasion war. However, the Russians once again proved that there is nothing sacred in them,” the Liberovs of Odessa wrote on their Instagram.

Advancing in the Donbas, the Russian army leaves behind devastated cities. Ukraine has already lost many fortresses in Donetsk and Luhansk region, turning them into ghost towns.

“We see the example of Crimea and Donetsk region that people who consumed Russian news had a distorted idea of what Russia carries with it and what it is in general,” StopFake co-founder Ruslan Deinichenko quotes “Ukrainian”.

Hostile propaganda traditionally mirrors its own crimes, accusing Ukraine of all sins. They say, “Kyiv has been purposefully destroying the industry of Donbass since 2014.” (“Arguments and Facts”).
The propaganda says “allegedly under Pokrovsk on Zelensky's orders they will destroy the last stocks of coking coal, only if they do not get to the real owners — the inhabitants of Donbas”. (“Arguments and Facts”).

“The once thick majestic forest is now a heap of dead broken trunks, which will not be left very soon either. A forest in which there is never silence, and every sound heard can be the last,” - Konstantin Liberov captioned the photo.

Russia has never admitted to any crimes committed against civilians. In Mariupol, occupied by the Russians since the beginning of the Great War, people died from shelling and from the inhumane conditions created by the blockade of the city.
One of the bloody terrorist attacks of the Russian army is the bombing of a maternity hospital in Mariupol. For the sake of whitewashing, the Russian authorities cite the testimony of Marianna Vishemirskaya from Mariupol. The girl survived the bombing of the maternity ward, later moved to Russia, where she spread hostile propaganda.

“According to the investigation, in March the Armed Forces of Ukraine and volunteer nationalist battalions shelled the building of the maternity hospital on Pashkovskogo Street, b. I'm 36. They then placed equipment and heavy weapons there, captured and detained at least 100 people, including about 40 children. The ministry said that the Ukrainian military used the civilian population as a living shield.”

“If the Associated Press journalists hadn't stayed in the surrounded Mariupol in March 2022, risking their lives along with doctors, military, police, other people, the world would not have received reliable facts about the atrocities of the Russian army in this city. Or these facts would be much smaller and they would not sound so loud,” Ivan Antipenko said in an interview UAPP.

Mstislav Chernov, along with colleagues from the Associated Press in March 2022, were the only ones to document the crimes of the Russian army in besieged Mariupol for 20 days. The footage formed the basis of the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol”. This film received an Oscar as the best documentary feature.

All these crimes are the face of the Russian invasion of Ukrainian soil. We do not know the future, but we know for sure that there is no future where the “Russian measure” comes. And we know that Ukrainians heroically create the future, create history. They document it.

“Kurakhove without exaggeration — the new Bakhmut”. [...] On the side of the road are burned cars with the bodies of locals who tried to escape from the city,” he says in an interview UAPP Anton Shtuka, describing the difficult situation in the city.

Earlier the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers wrote about how Russia is trying to destroy Kharkiv through shelling and propaganda.
