“Foreign mercenaries” in Kursk region: how Russian propaganda is trying to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Since the beginning of the military operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk region, Russian propaganda telegram channels and media have been actively spreading narratives about “foreign mercenaries” fighting in Kursk region. To confirm their narratives, they used photos belonging to the Forward Observations Group account on the social network Instagram.

On September 15, Sunday, Russian troops hit a high-rise building in Kharkiv with guided aerial bombs. The fire spread over four floors. The attack left 41 people wounded, including four children.

A year ago, Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, was in a relatively safe rear area, where IDPs from frontline settlements were arriving. The city was provided with communications, shops and banks were open, and residents felt relatively safe. However, over the past six months, the situation has changed dramatically.

Combining art and sport: Yuriy Makalis about the photo book “Velorukh” and cycling
Yuriy Makalis is a Ukrainian photographer and cyclist, as well as a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He combines photography with military service, continuing to work on cycling-related projects even during the war. Recently, together with cycling activist, volunteer, and IT entrepreneur Maria Shevchenko, Yurii co-authored the first Ukrainian photo book about the phenomenon of cycling, Velorukh, which covers the history, present, and outstanding moments of Ukrainian cycling.

Microgrant and Mentorship Program to Support Ukrainian Photographers
The program includes four mentorship courses and a final competition for participants. After that, we will provide financial support of €8,000 to Ukrainian photographers who create projects related to the theme of war. First and foremost, we will support authors who do not have regular access to equipment and resources, giving them additional opportunities to continue their work.

"SMS from Mariupol"
The Ukrainian Atelier of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and the Innovation Fund in Arts of the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg, presented a series of exhibition projects that served as a photo diary from occupied Mariupol. These projects were exhibited in Stuttgart and Dresden, Germany.

The photobook "Independent. The Story of Modern Ukraine in the Photographs of the Best Documentarians."
The photobook, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, was published with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Book Institute. It contains more than 140 unique documentary photographs from over 60 Ukrainian photographers, arranged chronologically from the proclamation of Ukraine's independence to the present day.

Manipulations in the media can occur even without the pressure of censors. The flow of images is everywhere; it defines trends and tastes and influences changes in political regimes. The media constructs reality and has the power to shape the course of history.

Bogdan Huliai has become a new member of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers. His work goes beyond traditional reportage photography - Bohdan explores deep themes of memory, existence, and personal stories, which he skillfully conveys mostly in film photographs. Some of Huliai's projects require a long time for deeper reflection, and sometimes even re-reading the Bible to find a new perspective on classic stories.

A photo with a story: The appeal of the image is the confusion of reality
This image, taken out of context, stops me and makes me interested, but reality erases all the aesthetic dimensions of the composition. It is difficult to talk about such pictures - I like them or I don't like them. Of course, I like the composition, the hunched bodies in a limited space touching each other, the flow of colors and the way the eye slides from one man's back to another, but I don't like the situation, the disgusting bodies and men's backs, their hands and, above all, their faces..

A Research That Became a Challenge: Olga Kovaleva and Vladislav Krasnoshchek on Filming in a Russian POW Camp
Photographers Olga Kovaleva and Vladislav Krasnoshchek, who actively document the Russia-Ukraine war, visited a Russian POW camp. They intended to create a photo report, but working among prisoners of war turned out to be challenging. For Vladislav and Olga, who came under enemy artillery fire in Donetsk in the summer of 2024, filming in the camp became not only a professional challenge but also an emotional one.

The "Azov" Battalion was created on May 5, 2014, in the city of Berdiansk as a special police patrol battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs based on a decision by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The battalion emerged from the Ukrainian partisan group "Chornyi Korpus," which voluntarily participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine, particularly in Kharkiv and the Sea of Azov region in 2014.
