The Revolution of Dignity: How Ukrainian documentary photographers preserved the history of the struggle for European values
Euromaidan, or the Revolution of Dignity, is the prehistory of the Great War. Civil protests under the flags of Ukraine and the EU turned into a struggle for democracy and the opportunity to vote with incendiary mixtures and cobblestones in their hands. The dead protesters of the Heavenly Hundred became the first victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Eleven years have passed since then, and Ukraine still continues to pay a high price for European values.

Photo as a weapon of truth: how FotoEvidence and UAPF document the war in Ukraine
The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers, in partnership with FotoEvidence, is implementing the three-year FotoEvidence Ukraine initiative, which has been documenting the Russian invasion since 2014 through photo books and exhibitions. This large-scale project, supported by the Open Society Foundations and the Renaissance Foundation, aims to preserve the memory of the war and support photographers who risk their lives for the sake of truth.‍

Russian ballistics in the center of Kyiv: the consequences of missile attacks through the lens of documentary filmmakers
On the morning of December 20, Russian troops attacked Kyiv using Kinzhal air defense missiles and Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, all five ballistic missiles were shot down by air defense forces.

On September 29, at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv, the opening of the photo exhibition "Spalah. Ukrainian Photography Today" took place. The project was implemented by the National Center "Ukrainian House" and the NGO "Platform for Cultural Initiatives" in cooperation with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers and with the support of the Press, Education, and Culture Department of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

As part of this year's Czech Photo Festival, on October 12, an exhibition titled "The Siege of Mariupol - The Last Journalists in the Occupied City" was opened at the Czech Photo Center Gallery in Prague. The exhibition features world-renowned works by Mstislav Chernov and Yevhen Maloletka. The project was realized by the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) in cooperation with Czech Photo and the Association of Professional Photographers of the Czech Republic (APF).

A large-scale exhibition of the members of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers entitled "They are fighting for us too" was organized in the Czech Republic, Belgium and the United States. The exhibition features more than 200 photographs documenting the vivid evidence of Russia's aggression and genocide, the lives of ordinary people in the war, and the brave struggle of our people not only for their own freedom but also for the freedom of the entire world.

A reasonable fear of obvious metaphors always tries to stop the author, but how hard is it to avoid them when it comes to a town called Chasiv Yar. Lviv photographer Yurko Dyachyshyn has been documenting life during the war since the first hours of the full-scale Russian invasion. He specifically captures how the familiar landscapes of his hometown, Lviv, are changing under the aggressive impact of war. Yurko Dyachyshyn shared his thoughts on working on the War Nouveau project, the limits of aesthetics during wartime, and why he doesn't believe that a single photograph can stop a war, though he hopes he is wrong.

Планувалось, що невеликі житлові контейнери стануть тимчасовим прихистком для внутрішньо переміщених родин. Утім, дуже скоро, огороджене парканом поселення перетворилось на гетто і стало проблемою для муніципальної влади.

On April 30, 2018, the large-scale anti-terrorist operation in the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine was completed. The ATO was restructured into the Joint Forces Operation. General Serhiy Nayev became the commander of the operation.

Photographer and artist Vladislav Krasnoshchek, a representative of the new wave of the Kharkiv School of Photography, continues to document the Russian-Ukrainian war.
