Life on the brink. The Struggle for the City of Bakhmut in the Photographs of Ukrainian Documentary Filmmakers
The city of Bakhmut held its defense from the beginning of July 2022 until the end of May 2023. After ten months of confrontation, the Ukrainian military withdrew from Bakhmut. The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers publishes photos of Danil Pavlov, Georgy Ivanchenko, Konstantin and Vlada Liberov, who were next to Ukrainian artillerymen and infantrymen, rescuers and medics, chaplains and local residents, and documented their lives and life in the city of Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have left Avdiivka. The city before the withdrawal of troops - in the photos of Ukrainian documentary filmmakers
On the night of Saturday, February 17, the Armed Forces of Ukraine withdrew from Avdiyivka to avoid the encirclement. The small industrial city is located 13 km from Donetsk. For almost 10 years, the Russians tried to occupy Avdiyivka, and after more than 3,100 days of defense, the city fell. The defense forces moved to more favorable frontiers.

The hottest spot on the frontline - Avdiivka
Military photographer Oleh Palchyk documented the lives of civilians in one of the hottest spots, frontline Avdiivka. Recently, most news has been about the Russian attacks on Avdiivka and Donbass in general. In early October, Oleg Palchyk and the Territorial Defence Media team travelled to Avdiivka, which is still being hard-fought.

Russians attacked the center of Dnipro and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities: the aftermath in the photos of Mykola Synelnikov
On the night of April 19, Russian troops once again attacked Ukraine. The occupiers launched 22 missiles of various types and 14 drones. The air force shot down all the Shaheds and 15 rockets. During the combined attack, the Dnieper and the region were most affected. The occupiers killed eight people: two adults in Dnipro and four adults and two children (a girl 14 years old and a boy 8 years old) in Sinelnikovo.

Three Russian Iskander missiles killed 17 Ukrainians in Chernihiv. The tragedy in the photos of documentary filmmaker Vyacheslav Ratynsky
On the morning of April 17, Russian troops attacked the center of Chernihiv with three cruise missiles. An eight-story building was destroyed, four high-rise buildings, a hospital, a higher education institution, dozens of cars were damaged. As of 17:00 it is known about 17 dead, 61 people injured, including three children.

After the rescuers arrived, the Russians struck again: the aftermath of the drone attack on Kharkiv, as photographed by Yakiv Lyashenko and Heorhiy Ivanchenko
Russian troops hit the civilian infrastructure of Kharkov. There are wounded and dead as a result of the shelling. The air force warned about the launch of Shahed kamikaze drones at 00:20. At 01:05 there was an explosion in Kharkiv. Over time, the city shuddered from several more explosions.

Two years of full-scale war in a photo book by Reporters. 190 documentary shots taken between February 2022 and February 2024. Among the authors of the photos are Danylo Pavlov, Yevhen Malolietka, Serhiy Korovainyi, Viacheslav Ratynskyi and almost 40 other photographers.

Microgrant and Mentorship Program to Support Ukrainian Photographers
The program includes four mentorship courses and a final competition for participants. After that, we will provide financial support of €8,000 to Ukrainian photographers who create projects related to the theme of war. First and foremost, we will support authors who do not have regular access to equipment and resources, giving them additional opportunities to continue their work.

"SMS from Mariupol"
The Ukrainian Atelier of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and the Innovation Fund in Arts of the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg, presented a series of exhibition projects that served as a photo diary from occupied Mariupol. These projects were exhibited in Stuttgart and Dresden, Germany.

The photobook "Independent. The Story of Modern Ukraine in the Photographs of the Best Documentarians."
The photobook, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, was published with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Book Institute. It contains more than 140 unique documentary photographs from over 60 Ukrainian photographers, arranged chronologically from the proclamation of Ukraine's independence to the present day.

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and Chekachkov Photo Academy presented a series of lectures by Myroslav Chernov: "Photography as a Tool of Manipulation." Manipulations in the media can occur even without the pressure of censors. The flow of images is everywhere; it defines trends and tastes and influences changes in political regimes. The media constructs reality and has the power to shape the course of history.

A reasonable fear of obvious metaphors always tries to stop the author, but how hard is it to avoid them when it comes to a town called Chasiv Yar. How to avoid the metaphor of a town devastated by war, which now belongs to dogs and memories to some extent, to the few remaining people with weapons (because they need to somehow fight off those dogs), and most importantly to the military, who need to defend the town from the Russians, no matter what ravine or abyss of numbed time and memory...

War Nouveau: A series by Yurko Dyachyshyn exploring the new landscapes of war.
Lviv photographer Yurko Dyachyshyn has been documenting life during the war since the first hours of the full-scale Russian invasion. He specifically captures how the familiar landscapes of his hometown, Lviv, are changing under the aggressive impact of war. Yurko Dyachyshyn shared his thoughts on working on the War Nouveau project, the limits of aesthetics during wartime, and why he doesn't believe that a single photograph can stop a war, though he hopes he is wrong.

Not My Home: Life in a Modular Town Captured in Photographs by Danilo Pavlov.
У січні 2015 року на околиці міста Харків, недалеко від аеропорту, збудували модульне містечко для переселенців зі сходу України та Криму. Планувалось, що невеликі житлові контейнери стануть тимчасовим прихистком для внутрішньо переміщених родин. Утім, дуже скоро, огороджене парканом поселення перетворилось на гетто і стало проблемою для муніципальної влади.

ATO is over. The beginning of the Joint Forces Operation in the photographs of Danylo Pavlov.
On April 30, 2018, the large-scale anti-terrorist operation in the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine was completed. The ATO was restructured into the Joint Forces Operation. General Serhiy Nayev became the commander of the operation.

Vladislav Krasnoshchek: “I once noticed a tattoo on someone’s body — the face of Christ. It turns out, Jesus is dead.”
Photographer and artist Vladislav Krasnoshchek, a representative of the new wave of the Kharkiv School of Photography, continues to document the Russian-Ukrainian war. At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he captured the situation in his native Kharkiv and traveled with volunteers to the front line.

HARIBAN AWARD — International Collotype Competition 2024
Премія Hariban Award, заснована компанією Benrido, поєднує 170-річну аналогову техніку з сучасною фотографією. Скляні пластини використовувалися як основа для друкарських форм для колотипного друку, що продовжується і сьогодні. Нагорода називається «Харібан», оскільки «Харі» означає скляна пластина, а «бан» - друкарська форма в японській мові.
