Karina Piliugina is a Ukrainian documentary filmmaker, producer, photographer and a new member of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers. She is known for her work in the Ukrainener project, the documentary series “Victory Units” and photos that tell about the struggle of Ukrainians during the war. We asked Karina about her work and projects, about what remains behind the scenes — her emotions, experiences and how she gives them advice through the lens of her camera.

A damaged high-rise building, one dead, injured people, among the victims is a baby. Such are the consequences of the Russian missile attack on the Dnieper on Friday, June 28. Rescuers spent the night dismantling the rubble of a destroyed high-rise building.

Murder of the “first cyborg” in Kyiv. Explosion of the car of the commander of special intelligence officers Maxim Shapoval in the photos of Serhiy Nuzhnenko
On June 27, 2017, around 8 am, the commander of one of the special purpose units of the Main Intelligence Directorate Maxim Shapoval died. His car exploded at the intersection of Solomenskaya and Mechanisatorov streets. The murder was classified as a terrorist act.

On January 30, 2017, the Armed Forces took control of the Avdeyev industrial zone, knocking out the Russians from there. The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers publishes photos of photojournalist Oleksandr Klymenko, who documented the stay of Ukrainian troops in Avdiivka industrial zone.

Special issue of Reporters in English
The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPF) in cooperation with The Ukrainians published a special issue of Reporters magazine, which brought together the most powerful documentary footage of the Ukrainian struggle for freedom. The issue includes 155 photographs by the country's leading photographers, as well as texts by Dmytro Kuleba, Oleksandra Matviychuk, Serhiy Plokhiy, Volodymyr Yermolenko, Olena Stiazhkina, and Olesya Khromeichuk.

BAKHMUT — THE FACE OF GENOCIDE (1942-2022)
The project is dedicated to the tragedy of the city of Bakhmut that took place in 2022, as well as to honoring the memory of the victims of the Bakhmut Babyn Yar, a horrific crime committed by the Nazis in 1942. This exhibition aims to unite the two genocides in one space and draw parallels between them.
