She is known for her work in the Ukrainener project, the documentary series “Victory Units” and photos that tell about the struggle of Ukrainians during the war. We asked Karina about her work and projects, about what remains behind the scenes — her emotions, experiences and how she gives them advice through the lens of her camera.

Kyiv in the lens of documentary filmmakers Viacheslav Ratynskyi and Pavel Florescu after a massive Russian missile attack
The first massive missile attack on the capital in 44 days. On the morning of March 21, Russian troops carried out another act of terror against Ukrainians. Enemy missiles came from the north, the main target of attack was Kiev. Overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force destroyed 31 missiles — 2 ballistic and 29 cruise missiles.

Russians hit a printing house and furniture shop in Kharkiv. Tragedy in the photo of Yakov Lyashenko
On March 20, at noon, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv with an X-59 missile, which hit a multi-storey civil industrial enterprise. Five dead and seven injured are now known. This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleg Synegubov.

Dozens killed after missile attack on Odesa. The tragedy in the photo by Oleksandr Himanov
In Odessa on the morning of March 15, a series of explosions occurred. The air force reported ballistic missile launches from the territory of the occupied Crimea. Russian troops twice struck civilian infrastructure, where medics and rescuers had already come to help after the first explosion.

Rescuers have completed search operations in Odesa, 5 children are among the dead. The tragedy in the photo by Olexandr Gimanov
Mark, who is not yet three years old, his siblings ten-year-old Sergey and eight-year-old Zlata, eight-month-old baby Elizabeth and four-month-old Timothy — these children were killed by Russia during the attack by the “shaheeds” on Odessa. Both babies were found with their mothers, who covered them with themselves.

Night attack by “Shahed”: destruction and casualties in Dnipro and Odesa
On the night of February 23, the Russians once again attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones. The air defense managed to destroy 23 attack UAVs out of 31 within the Odessa, Nikolaev, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv regions.

A fiery river of fuel covered the Nemyshlyan district of Kharkov on the night of February 10. There was an air alarm in the city, there was an explosion, and then a fire broke out.

Microgrant and Mentorship Program to Support Ukrainian Photographers
The program includes four mentorship courses and a final competition for participants. After that, we will provide financial support of €8,000 to Ukrainian photographers who create projects related to the theme of war. First and foremost, we will support authors who do not have regular access to equipment and resources, giving them additional opportunities to continue their work.

"SMS from Mariupol"
The Ukrainian Atelier of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) and the Innovation Fund in Arts of the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg, presented a series of exhibition projects that served as a photo diary from occupied Mariupol. These projects were exhibited in Stuttgart and Dresden, Germany.

The photobook "Independent. The Story of Modern Ukraine in the Photographs of the Best Documentarians."
The photobook, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, was published with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Book Institute. It contains more than 140 unique documentary photographs from over 60 Ukrainian photographers, arranged chronologically from the proclamation of Ukraine's independence to the present day.

Manipulations in the media can occur even without the pressure of censors. The flow of images is everywhere; it defines trends and tastes and influences changes in political regimes. The media constructs reality and has the power to shape the course of history.
