A week of anxiety and destruction. Kyiv, Kharkiv and Kherson in the photographs of documentary filmmakers
Between October 28 and November 3, 2024, peaceful and relatively rearward Ukrainian cities were once again targeted by Russian shelling, resulting in civilian casualties and widespread destruction. This week, drone and missile attacks have kept Kyiv and Kharkiv residents awake almost every night, and Kherson residents have also been affected.

A police officer was killed and his colleagues were wounded. Consequences of rocket attacks on Kharkiv in the photos of Georgiy Ivanchenko
On Friday, November 1, at 16:05, explosions were heard in Kharkiv again. The Russian occupiers fired two S-300 missiles, causing destruction in the residential sector. As a result of the missile attack, 40-year-old police colonel Andriy Matvienko, who served in the frontline region, was killed. Another 26 of his colleagues and four civilians were injured, some of them in serious condition.

On October 28, Russia attacked the central part of Kharkiv, causing damage to the historic Derzhprom building, an outstanding example of constructivism and a candidate for the UNESCO heritage list.

A 14-year-old girl was killed and six people were injured in a nighttime Russian drone attack on Kyiv. Late in the evening of October 25, Kyiv came under another Russian attack with attack drones.

Special issue of Reporters in English
The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPF) in cooperation with The Ukrainians published a special issue of Reporters magazine, which brought together the most powerful documentary footage of the Ukrainian struggle for freedom. The issue includes 155 photographs by the country's leading photographers, as well as texts by Dmytro Kuleba, Oleksandra Matviychuk, Serhiy Plokhiy, Volodymyr Yermolenko, Olena Stiazhkina, and Olesya Khromeichuk.

«Brave to bring the light»
An exhibition project created in cooperation between the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPF) and IST Publishing, which is being implemented as part of the presentation of the book of the same name, which reflects the life of Ukraine during the difficult period of winter blackouts in 2022-2023, as well as the courage of energy workers and every citizen of Ukraine.

BAKHMUT — THE FACE OF GENOCIDE (1942-2022)
The project is dedicated to the tragedy of the city of Bakhmut that took place in 2022, as well as to honoring the memory of the victims of the Bakhmut Babyn Yar, a horrific crime committed by the Nazis in 1942. This exhibition aims to unite the two genocides in one space and draw parallels between them.

Life after deportation and before the occupation. Crimean Tatars by Gennadiy Minchenko
On May 18, Ukraine honors the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatars. 80 years ago at 3:00am on May 18, 1944, the Soviet authorities began the evacuation of all Crimean Tatars from their native peninsula. At that time, about 200,000 people were forcibly taken out in goods wagons. Almost half died on the road or in the first years after deportation.

Photographic shops, photo studios and private photography courses. On the territory of modern Ukraine at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries, photography became commonplace. Artists united in professional and amateur societies. Some people made millions from photographs and gained fame, and some went bankrupt and lost everything. Someone worked as a photojournalist for Soviet newspapers, and someone was a freelancer and travel blogger.

Alone. Kateryna Moskaliuk's project about the wives of fallen soldiers
The photo project “Alone” is the stories of women from all over Ukraine, whose husbands died during the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. Odessa, Lviv, Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, Starokostyantyniv or small towns and villages — the pain has no definite location. Photographer Ekaterina Moskalyuk took portraits of the wives of dead servicemen, things that they keep in memory of their husbands, and also photographed friends and close women who help them search for new meanings in life.
